Portwest are delighted to be sponsoring this year's Westport United's Girls Invitational Tournament. The tournament will consist of 16 teams, with four groups of four teams competing for one trophy in each age group.
The tournament is eligible to teams at three age levels, U.10, U.12 and U.14.
The visibility of women's football in Ireland is at an all time high thanks to Ireland's qualification for this year's FIFA Women's World Cup. In the first game of the tournament Ireland played one of two host nations, Australia in front of a sold out crowd of over 75,500 people. And over 8,000 people turned out on Dublin's O'Connell Street to welcome the Irish Women's football team home this week from Ireland's first ever appearance at a major tournament.
The future of women's football in Ireland is looking bright and young children now have female players as role models.
The tournament kicks off at 10am, Saturday 12th of August at United Park, Westport.
